GTW 5824
Description:
GTW 5824 serving the GAF plant in Mobile. This was taken off Florida St. They stopped and then rolled backwards into the GAF plant. It closed in early 2018 due to complaints about a stench coming from the plant and affecting the surrounding area, and this was the only picture I ever got of a train serving this plant before it closed.

ALE GP38-2s 3859 and 3863
Description:
Alabama Export Railroad (ALE) is a subsidiary of Mississippi Export Railroad (MSE). The ALE owns only two locomotives, EMD GP38-2 #3863 and EMD GP38-2 #3859. Both of these locomotives are ex HLCX leasers and both have a colorful history. It is not the best image of the duo, but it was hard to get a good shot because we were on the interstate on the opposite side from the yard they were in. My goal is to someday soon get a better shot of them both!

CN 3172 stopped next to the Florida St. railroad crossing
Description:
CN 3172 Aboriginal Affairs sticker tier 4 GEVO stopped right next to the Florida St. railroad crossing with only the top headlights on. I could not tell if it was a DPU or if it was on the head of the consist. It was a coal consist that, surprisingly, was about 15 cars long. I also could not tell if anyone was in the cab at the time either. CN only runs 4 trains total in a day through Mobile, 2 early morning headed to Mississippi, and 2 late at night headed back from Mississippi.

Description:
Saw both of these on a 5 loco lash-up in the NS Mobile yard next to the yard office. It arrived on Friday evening, and I was surprised that it was still there when I went downtown to go railfanning. Had to hold my phone out the window and up above the roof of the car to get this shot, this was one of the best shots I could get. This was also my first heritage unit that was not Amtrak!

ALE geeps in ALE yard office/ car repair shops
Description:
ALE 3863 and ALE 3859 idling at the ALE (ex CN) yard office/car repair shops in Mobile, AL. I finally got a good picture of these locos and I am so happy! Later into the day, they pulled into their yard behind the overpass for I-165 and it was really hard to get a picture of them. I am really grateful that they were in the yard office that morning so I could get the opportunity to snap a picture of them, which is something I almost can never do because they are always either not in Mobile or they are in the yard, hidden behind trees, brush, and concrete pillars.

Saw these when I was flying over CSX’s Sibert Yard. There appears to be maybe 3 AC44s (1 YN2 and 2 YN3), 1 ES44 of some sort (YN3), and an SD40-3 yard switcher shunting back a train of empties. I couldn’t get any numbers of any of these locos sadly, but it was still cool to see them.

ALE locos and an NS consist at Sibert
Description:
Saw these when I was flying over CSX’s Sibert Yard. ALE 3859 and ALE 3863 were sitting in the ALE yard office/car shops, and there was an NS consist sitting in Sibert. I sadly couldn’t get any numbers of the NS units, but the lead unit appears to be an SD70ACC, the middle unit appears to be a Dash 9, and the rear unit appears to be either an SD70ACe, SD70ACU, or an SD70M-2. These locomotives were really strange/rare to see in Sibert, and it was cool to see all of the locos present.

Ex B&O hopper at Brookley Siding
Description:
I saw a westbound CSX manifest on Sunday passing a local train sitting in the siding, and the manifest passed with either a CW44 or a GEVO on the point. I couldn’t really see due to the trees blocking my view, and I could not get a good quality picture off the head end. It took me by surprise since it was flying by at track speed. Near the end of the manifest, I saw this ex B&O gem behind another CSX hopper, and it caught my eye. I am so fortunate to have seen one of these, since there are not many Chessie System railcars left in original paint like this. I also like the rust and weathering, it really contributes to the worn out look.

Ex B&O hopper at Brookley Siding
Description:
I saw a westbound CSX manifest on Sunday passing a local train sitting in the siding, and the manifest passed with either a CW44 or a GEVO on the point. I couldn’t really see due to the trees blocking my view, and I could not get a good quality picture off the head end. It took me by surprise since it was flying by at track speed. Near the end of the manifest, I saw this ex B&O gem behind another CSX hopper, and it caught my eye. I am so fortunate to have seen one of these, since there are not many Chessie System railcars left in original paint like this. I also like the rust and weathering, it really contributes to the worn out look.

Description:
CSX 3175 sitting at Brookley Siding waiting for another train to pass it before it can continue into CSX’s Sibert Yard. It is very hard to see the details of the engine because of the sun being bad and giving off a glare that makes for terrible lighting.

NS grain transfer at Sibert
Description:
An NS grain train transfer waits to depart CSX’s Sibert Yard in Mobile, AL. The engines were idling, but there was no crew inside the engines or anywhere to be seen. It is being lead by a GEVO, with 2 AC44C6M’s trailing. I could not see how long the train was due to the hopper cars on the track next to the road blocking my view.
